TRANS+ PLAYWRITING COMMISSION

Life Jacket has named C. Quintana the inaugural recipient of our $10,000 commission for Trans+ playwrights, which includes gender non-conforming, gender-expansive, and nonbinary individuals. Quintana was selected from hundreds of applicants after a national open call. The commission will support Quintana as they create a new play based on in-depth interviews with Trans+ people living across America.

“Through this commission, I seek to expand the traditions of documentary theatre by uplifting the often-silenced voices of the Trans+ community, particularly in an environment that is rife with anti-Trans rhetoric and violence. Using first-person testimonials, my new play will aplify the actual words of Trans+ people themselves to construct a series of honest, unflinching, and inspiring portraits of what it means to live openly, proudly, and defiantly as Trans+ in America today.” — C.
